Visiting Ipoh wouldn’t be complete without tasting the famous dishes the city has to offer. Food lovers from all over would flock here just to try the well-known delicacies such as Nasi Vanggey, Salted Chicken, White Coffee and many more. After all, they are sought-after for good reasons. From royalty to common folk, there is a place in Ipoh that everyone goes to for breakfast called New Hollywood. Located at Taman Canning, breakfast and lunch is served from 7AM until 3PM every day except some Mondays. One of the must-have dishes here is the Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fun that comes in either prawn or chicken fillings for RM4.50 per plate. Besides that, there are also other meals to try such as roti goyang, wantan mee, nasi lemak and much more. A word of warning, the place is almost always packed. It is simply a testament of how popular it is. For lunch we suggest you to proceed to Taman Boon Bak for Mee Hailam Ang Ang. It is a small, air-conditioned, kopitiam style restaurant. Originally from Parit, 50 minutes’ drive from Ipoh, there was a time when customers have to wait about 40 minutes just to have a taste of their mee! There are six different types of Mee Hailam namely vegetarian, petai, prawn, beef, chicken and bitter gourd. This place closed on Monday and Tuesday and it is open from Wednesday to Saturday at 9:30AM until 5PM while on Sunday until 4PM. Mee Hailam Ang Ang is rather spicy so it’s something for the spicy lovers out there! At night you can relax and have your last meal of the day at Chokodok Reggae House. Located at Jalan Sultan Iskandar, you can imagine the interior by its name. Decorated with charming DIY stuff and furniture as well as portraits of reggae artists, this place houses a variety of specialties. Their signature dish would be the Jamaican Jerk Chicken which is a must-try. If you’re not up for that, you can also go for their fried rice or mee as well as a selection of toasts. It is open from 11AM every day except Monday. If you’re here late at night on weekends, you might even catch a live band’s performance!
